Global Warming

Global warming is harming many animals and their environments. It is concerning many people. Grinnell Glaicer has shrunk 150 acres because of global warming. It needs to stop. It is coming from pollution. Global warming is killing many animals and tearing their environments apart. That is important to me, because global warming is harming animals.

On my global warming survey my classmates responded to my questions. 52.9% said global warming was affecting them. Another majority of my classmates thought global warming is getting worse. Some of them thought global warming would become a major problem in the future. But some of my classmates were not concerned at all.

I think people should become more concerned about Global warming. I think we need to make technology that doesn't produce near as much air pollution. Air pollution is what's depleting the ozone layer. I think we should stop and think before we harm the environment. For the people who took my survey, I hope this will change your perspective about global warming.

I loved everything we did at the outdoor school. But I think the aquabiotics was the most interesting for me, because I understood it really well and I loved jumping in the South Llano River looking for and learning about macroinvertebrates. While in the river, Mickey and I caught about 7 aquatic beetles, 3 leeches, 1 pincher, and a mussel. We also caught some caterpillar looking macro that my partner and I barely identified. There was so much algae and moss in the river. The water flow was also pretty strong. I also liked everything else we did in Junction, but that was my favorite activity.

Simple Machines

I did not know that there was so much to learn about simple machines. I always wondered what a fulcrum was, and now I know. I also enjoyed the game. This is some of my favorite stuff to learn about. I also didn't know that a ceiling fan and a boat propeller were both inclined planes and it was also interesting to learn that shoelaces were pulleys. I hope how we can do this again very soon because this was very interesting. THIS BLOG ROCKS!!!!!!

Matter, Atoms, and Energy

Energy is required for physical, chemical, and nuclear changes to occur. Energy is the ability to do work. Matter is very important too. Matter is anything that takes up space. The basic building block of matter is the atom. There are over 100 different types of atoms or elements. Matter and energy can not be created or destroyed, but it can be transformed. Physical changes can alter the shape, size, texture, density, or mass. Atoms have positive and negative charges that attract to form a bond known as a chemical bond. A chemical bond is created by electromagnetic force. Electromagnetic force attracts electrons to the nucleus of the atom. Molecules also interest me very much. Example of a molecule: o2 represents the molecule of oxygen. A compound is when molecules form from different elements. A mixture is two or more substances mixed together that can be separated. An example of a compound would be: trail mix, because there are several different substances that are mixed together that can be separated. A solution is when two or more substances can be evenly distributed. A chemical change in matter would be when chemical bonds between atoms are either broken or formed. Burning a piece of paper and baking a cake would be an example of a chemical change in matter, because you can not " unburn a piece of paper or rebake a cake." Combustibility means a substance has the ability to burn.

FIREWEED

The fireweed is known to be seen when a forest fire has wiped out an entire forest. That is why it is called fireweed. Fireweed usually has pink petals. Sunlight is what this plant needs to stay alive. It needs a moist climate and mild temperature and weather. Fireweed (like said above) comes out when a forest fire wipes out at least a very small section of the forest. Like most plants whenever the wind starts to pick up, the seeds fly off of the plant and land in a different location. afterward the seeds sink into the ground and later come out as a fireweed plant.
